I’ve been calling out Washington’s broken budget process ever since I came to the United States Senate.
It is a complete failure and has only worked four times in the last 44 years. Both Republicans and Democrats have acknowledged that the budget process is broken, and now, we are finally seeing some urgency to fix it.
Recently, Congress formed a joint select committee of 8 Republicans and 8 Democrats from the House and Senate tasked with fixing the budget process.
It was just announced this evening that I was chosen to serve on this committee. I’m hopeful we will make real progress toward changing this budget process so Congress can successfully meet its constitutional responsibility of funding the federal government.
Fixing the budget process will not solve the debt crisis, but we will not solve the debt crisis unless and until we fix this broken budget process.
