Thrift Savings Plan (TSP)
There’s a lot to consider when deciding to withdraw money from your TSP account. Statistics show that people are living longer, healthier lives. It’s possible that you could spend two, maybe three, decades in retirement. The money in your TSP account plays a big role in your retirement picture. You’ll need those savings to provide you with income when you need it, so you’ll need to plan your withdrawal strategy carefully.
During government furlough you may want to evaluate your individual TSP plan contributions. Employees who have significant difficulty meeting their financial obligations due to reduced income may want to change or modify the amount they are putting into TSP and/or their specific allocations. A financial hardship withdrawal or a TSP loan may also be options (consider both the pros and the cons before doing either). Check your eligibility on the TSP website
